Darin McCarthy

Darin McCarthy
Owner/Physical Therapist

Darin currently holds his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Shenandoah University in Virginia. He previously received a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from The University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 1996, where he was a recipient of the Clinical Excellence Award from the College of Health Professions.  Prior to that he held a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from The University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 1994 where he received board certification in athletic training.  His previous training includes the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Ohio State University Medical Center and as an intern with the New England Patriots Football Team.  His experience includes being a physical therapist in San Diego, California, where, for several years, completed the majority of his post-graduate training in manual therapy with an emphasis on TMJ, spinal and sports injury rehabilitation.  While in San Diego he was employed in outpatient orthopedics then serving as the director of outpatient services for a large multi-center orthopedic group before relocating back to Massachusetts.  Darin is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist (OCS).  Orthopedic clinical specialists are physical therapists certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS) for their expertise in orthopedics.  He is also certified in Dry Needling through the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.  Dry needling is a technique that involves superficial and deep needle insertion for the treatment of painful musculoskeletal and myofascial conditions.  Darin is currently an adjunct faculty member and frequent guest lecturer at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.  Therafit also provides on-site labs for aquatic therapy to UML students.  He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association in the orthopedic, private practice and aquatic therapy sections.  

Erica Compagnone

Erica graduated with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2003.  She also received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology of the University of Massachusetts.  Since her graduation, Erica has been part of the Therafit staff and is the director of aquatic therapy.  Erica’s post-graduate coursework has been specialized in aquatic physical therapy and she is certified in the Burdenko Method levels 1-6.  In her spare time Erica is a gymnastics coach.

Danielle Philipp

Danielle earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Franklin Pierce University in 2013.  She earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from UMass Lowell in 2010.  Danielle loves the spine and enjoys treating patients with a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.  Danielle is currently taking post-graduate training through the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.  She has had extensive post-graduate training in foot and ankle injuries.  Danielle applies her background in manual therapy skills as well as exercise into her treatments.  She is also certified in Dry Needling through the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.  Dry needling is a technique that involves superficial and deep needle insertion for the treatment of painful musculoskeletal and myofascial conditions.  Danielle loves working with children of all ages.  In her free time she coaches youth cheerleading and follows NHL hockey.  

Stephanie Esker

Stephanie received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT) from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where she previously received her Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Exercise Science.  Her clinical interests include treating individuals with complex shoulder issues as well as neurologically impaired patients.  Stephanie treats individuals in both the traditional setting as well as in the aquatic therapy environment.  She loves coaching sports at all levels and is an avid disc golf and ultimate frisbee competitor.

Ryan graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell where he received his Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree (DPT).  He previously received a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Exercise Science and as well as became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  “I have been a lifelong athlete, avid weightlifter, and no stranger to injuries.”  “Experiences with injury rehab in my youth, led me to pursue this career.”  “I want to provide you with the same level of exceptional care whether your goal is to maximize your athletic performance, become a professional weightlifter, or take a pain-free walk with your grandkids.”  “My passion is working with athletes of all ages and abilities.”  Rayn is also certified in Dry Needling through the Dry Needling Institute of the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy.

Brendan recently graduated with his Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree (DPT) from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.  He has previously received his Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell.  Brendan is an avid runner, having competed in 3 marathons.

Bryan currently holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.  “Working at Therafit has given me a great appreciation for the many clients that I have with pre-existing orthopedic issues that I am able to safely individualize programs for all while maximizing gains to help them achieve their goals.”  He is an avid biker focused on living a healthy lifestyle that includes hiking mountains in his spare time as well.  Bryan has both experience with and enjoys working with clients both individually and in small groups and welcomes the opportunity to work with you!

Veronica is currently finishing up her Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Exercise Science from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.  “In working at Therafit while completing my degree I have had a lot of opportunity to work with many clients who were physical therapy patients first.  The challenge to help all of my clients achieve their goals while emphasizing safety and proper body mechanics is especially rewarding."  Veronica has also been a competitive dancer most of her life and is currently part of the UMass Lowell dance team.  She has a passion for health and fitness and is always ready to help you reach your goals!
